Mulberry announced in February that it would be naming a bag
after the retro styled songstress Lana Del Ray. This honour has previously been
bestowed to a mere handful of icons including one of the most contemporary influential
trend setters, Alexa Chung. The launch of the Del Ray at Mulberry’s AW12 show
at LFW was complimented by a performance by it’s namesake at their Savile Club
supper showing this could be the start of something beautiful.
It seems that being immortalised in leather by this
legendary brand could be confirmation of fashion status as Alexa is certainly a
la mode for the foreseeable future, reaching greater heights this year being
awarded British Fashion Council’s Young Style Ambassador. The girl who used to grace
our T4 telly is now internationally renowned for being the ideal of British
fashion.
Could this be the same blissful fate for Ms Del Ray? A muse
for music lovers with a delicious, gravely voice and haunting music she has
already enchanted the fashion world with her Bambi eyes and nostalgic style. In
such a short explosion into the public eye, the New Yorker has made cover girl
on British Vogue where the likes of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung
have sat before her. With the Mulberry seal of approval it’s merely a case of
watch this space.
The Del Ray is available from mid-May as part of the
Mulberry AW12 collection.
